Read 1 Corinthians 7:28
I love that Paul warns us that marriage can be trouble in the flesh. We’ve got too much Disney in our brains, too many happily ever after marriage images that when the rocks (and I’m positive every marriage experiences them) fall across the path, many bail thinking something’s not the way it’s supposed to be. Wake up! You put two selfish, self-seeking people under one roof and command them to become one entity, sharing everything and well…feathers are going to get ruffled. Add to that the sheer fact the enemy hates marriage and your union is constantly under attack. Paul wants to spare us those troubles but he knows we have problems controlling our sexual urges and therefore to avoid those sins he recommends that we marry. Just don’t be deceived, it’s not all honeymoon. I cried on my honeymoon and considered annulment. Hey, the truth hurts. People are hard enough to get along with when you don’t have to live with them or see ‘em naked. It only gets harder when those attributes are included. Listen, I’m not trying to scare you away from marriage, neither was Paul. All I’m saying is take off the Mickey ears and put your big girl pants on. It’s a rough ride but I’m convinced it’s worth it because God designed it.
Father, teach us to appreciate our spouses as the blessings they are. Thank You for giving us people in our corner, help us to love them like You do. Please? In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
