Read 1 Corinthians 7:23
I was looking for some deep hidden meaning in the verbiage chosen here and then it dawned on me after reading the KJV, “…be ye not the servants of men.” So, who bought you? Christ with His most precious blood, a ransom you could never accomplish on your own even if every kind act equaled a million dollars, a billion dollars, because your debt was infinite and only the Everlasting could foot (or wrist and ankle) the bill! So, don’t serve, be enslaved to, mankind, the world, the American dream, the keeping up with the Jones’, the mall wardrobe and big rocks (coals could be worth just as much if we’d assigned them that value). The truth is, your service to, through, and in, Christ is all that will ever matter. Your 401K, retirement fund, life insurance, paid off home/car, will all rot. They won’t mean a thing and even if all your valuables are in a fireproof safe or bank protected box, you can’t take them with you. Listen, it’s only those treasures in heaven that will mean anything. We’ve got to get our eyes off this world, its pleasures, passions and distractions and start focusing more on eternity because our time there is way longer than this fleeting breath. Time to wake up friends and smell the Lily of the Valley, the Rose of Sharon.
Father, remind us that our servitude is to be to You and You alone. Help us remember eternity in these mundane, miniscule moments. We ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
