Can You Take the Heat?

Read Zechariah 13:9

I’d ask you to read the whole of chapter 13. I’m not going to lie, I’m a little troubled by verses 2-6, but I trust my King to give me wisdom therein (and when I get it, I’ll gladly share), because His Word tells me He’ll give wisdom to those who ask (James 1:5).

Now, if we read verse 1, I think we can agree that he’s talking about Jesus, the Fountain that cleanses from sin. No doubt we’ve seen v. 7; Jesus quotes part of it (Matthew 26:31). So, as we continue, I hope it will become apparent that only 1/3 of the whole of the earth will actually be His. We could argue this point I suppose, but there’s no value in that, you don’t have to agree. However, surely you will need to understand verse 9.

Yes, it’s hard to swallow. No, it’s not a method in which to win friends and influence people but it is the way to know who’s really His, who’s really a friend of God. No doubt you’ve seen such fire-like testing in your own friendships and I’d almost be willing to bet (and I don’t bet) that when the fires hit, the majority bailed. Like you, God wants friends that don’t run. So, can you take the heat?

Father, burn us up ‘til we’re pure gold for You. Let us be Your bling. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
